Who is KidsPlus+?

KidsPlus+ is here to help strengthen effective children’s ministry in Anglican churches in the Diocese of Melbourne.

History of KidsPlus+

KidsPlus+ is a ministry of GFS Melbourne Inc.

It is an Anglican ministry that strives to nurture, encourage and support others in the love of Christ through their respective ministries, particularly focused on children'.

KidsPlus+ was commenced by GFS (the Girls Friendly Society) and CEBS (the Anglican Boys Society) in the 1990’s, in Victoria, to accommodate both girls and boys attending groups, rather than the single-sex model of GFS and CEBS.

There are KidsPlus+ groups in Melbourne, Gippsland, Perth, Brisbane, North Queensland and Sydney, as well as GFS groups and CEBS groups.

KidsPlus+ allows the Parish greater flexibility of ministry models but remains a significant part of the GFS community.

History of GFS

Originally known as the Girls Friendly Society, GFS was established in England in 1875 by Mary Elizabeth Townsend. GFS came to Australia in 1879, arrived in the Melbourne Diocese in 1882 and spread across Australia into most Anglican Dioceses. GFS Melbourne Inc has been a vibrant ministry to girls and women for more than 140 years.

GFS is part of the worldwide Anglican Church and is currently know to be operating in over 35 countries.

GFS aims to provide a vital ministry that empowers people to build a continuing relationship with Jesus Christ, to value themselves and one another, and to experience life within a faith community.

This ministry is guided by the GFS Motto “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
